About this course

According to the most recent official statistics on police recorded violent crime. A rise of 21% from 1.1 million violent crimes in 2016 to 1.3 million in 2017. The rise has noticed a slow incline from 2014. This violent crime awareness course is designed specifically for staff. Who can be exposed to the risk of violent crime in the workplace. Helping your employees to become more aware of violent crime prevention and response, will enable your organisation to demonstrate you have proactively considered appropriate steps to minimise the risk to staff under the H&SaW Act.

According to Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). A violent crime is a crime in which the offender uses or threatens to use violent force upon the victim. This entails both crimes in which the violent act is the objective, such as murder. As well as crimes in which violence is the means to an end, such as robbery. Violent crimes include crimes committed with weapons. The categories are Murder and Manslaughter, Throwing corrosive substances (acid attacks), Assault, Gun and knife crime or Robbery.

Aim of the Violent Crime Awareness Course

On the 6th April 2008 the Corporate Manslaughter Bill came into effect and as such this course will provide a competency-based accreditation to aid in the individual’s personal security. The course will give the delegate a knowledge base, to recognise the potential for violent incidents and enhance aspects of personal safety, by understanding different concepts, tactics and methods to effectively respond and recall details post event.


Course Accreditation

This Violent Crime Awareness course is going through accreditation with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) accreditation process. At present this is a Trisat Certified Course.

The course contents

The Violent Crime Awareness course consists of tutor led discussions, demonstrations and scenario replication (role play) and the content is as follows:

  • Identify potential vulnerable situations within the workplace
  • Understand the difference between awareness and observation skills
  • Use the S.A.F.E.R guide to enhance business and personal security awareness
  • Immediate actions in a violent situation within the workplace
  • Understand F.E.A.R and how your nervous system works
  • Better understand how to control your emotional state
  • Use the A-to-H Model to recall circumstances after an incident/event
  • Post incident management
