Welcome to the QNUK 3-Day Close Protection Top-Up Training Course . From the 1st October 2022 the new Close Protection top-up training came into effect. All those who are required to renew their licence will have to complete the top-up training to be brought up to date with the new SIA licence-linked qualifications requirements.
From the Security Industry Skills and Qualifications Review (SISQR) in 2018/2019 and the subsequent physical Intervention consultations, it was agreed that a new requirement for Door Supervisors & Close Protection operatives to undertake physical intervention skills training. From June 2010. Physical intervention skills have been part of the door supervisor linked qualifications. Now it is the requirement of all CPO’s to have the new close protection top up training, to ensure they have physical intervention training.
QNUK is the only awarding organisation to be able to deliver this qualification over a 3 day period and not 5 days. This is achieved by completing pre-course work and combining fragmental elements of the Door Supervisor and Close Protection Physical Intervention units that are converged.
The Aim of the course
To achieve the qualification learners must achieve 4 mandatory Units:
Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry | Completion via online training (CLICK HERE both parts are required) with an MCQ exam| 20Mins Face-to-Face
Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security Industry | Completion via virtual learning and an MCQ exam | Distance Learning
Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry | Completion via Classroom Training with a Workbook Portfolio of Evidence, MCQ and Practical session | Joint 13hrs of Guided Learning
Application of Physical Intervention Skills for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security Industry | Completion via Classroom Training with a Workbook Portfolio of Evidence, MCQ and Practical session | Joint 15hrs of Guided Learning
Completing the full qualification, will require the undertaking of all four units and practical scenario based physical intervention assessments at our training centre.

Course Accreditation
This Level 2 Award for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security Industry (Top Up) course qualification. Recognised by the Security Industry Authority and the security department of QNUK (CTR Secure Training-Trisat is an approved centre).
Course Contents
The Close Protection Top-Up Training Course qualification contents covers the indicative content to effectivley gain the required licence linked top-up to gain your new SIA Licence. The main content is as follows:
One –Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry(Day 1)
Understand terror threats and the role of the security operative in the event of a threat
Two – Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security Industry (Pre-Course)
Understand how to keep vulnerable people safe
Understand licensing law relevant to the role of a door supervisor
Understand queue management and venue capacity responsibilities relevant to a door supervisor
Three – The application of Physical Intervention Skills (Door Supervisors) within the Private Security Industry (Day 1-2)
Understand physical interventions and the implications of their use
Understand the risks associated with using physical intervention
Understand how to reduce the risks associated with physical intervention
Be able to use physical skills to protect yourself and others
Be able to use non-pain compliant standing, holding and escorting techniques
Four – Application of Physical Intervention Skills for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security Industry (Day 2-3)
Understand the requirements of providing clear and concise instructions to the principal and team members in emergency situations
Know how to respond to a change in operational conditions from Standard Operating Procedures to Emergency Operational Procedures
Responsibilities of the close protection team when there is an immediate physical threat to the principal
Delegates must understand the necessity for narrowing the concentric layers of protection when managing an immediate threat to the principal.
Understanding the implications of common and criminal law when using force on another person.
Know the positive alternatives to using physical intervention skills in a close protection environment
Understanding associated threats as a result of an attempted assault or unwarranted attention towards a principal
Know how to apply physical intervention skills in a justifiable, ethical, and professional manner
Be able to use non-pain compliant soft skills to prevent harm to a principal
Be able to use defensive non-pain compliant skills to protect self from assault
Be able to use non-pain complaint methods of protecting the inner cordon
Be able to protect the principal from assault
Be able to communicate effectively to encourage de escalation
