Personal Security & CitizenAID Course
17 February 2020We are pleased to announce another successful Personal Security & CitizenAID course was delivered on Sunday, to 11 local individuals employed as care assistants, nurses, police and other self employed personnel.
Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, the project description is: Citizen AID GY will offer a series of inclusive training days that have been tailored specifically with local people to meet the needs of local communities in Great Yarmouth; with a focus on nurturing community-led structures that can defuse local tensions and unite different perspectives within a cohesive social purpose. These tensions include those common within family structures with young teenagers; across different generations and between indigenous and emerging communities in marginalised neighbourhoods.
Citizen AID GY is associated with and can provide pathways into the QA Level 2 Award in citizenAID (RQF) designed to teach members of the public life-saving skills and confidence to effectively manage difficult situations in community settings.
Bring people together and build strong relationships in and across communities: The need for Citizen AID GY has grown over the last 12 months; as social tensions continue to build and become more concerning to local residents, families and communities. Escalations in incidents of hate related and violent crimes (Great Yarmouth has recorded 3 knife attacks in the last month alone) has catalysed local communities to take affirmative action to address the underlying causes of these incidents; including by bringing different groups together to develop tools for cognitive prevention. (Such as conflict management and resolution, handling aggression and understanding triggers and inhibitors to aggression).
